How to Find Tools and Parts

Step-by-Step Repair Guide

Step 1: Heating the Screen

Proper heating is essential to safely remove the screen.

  • Use a tablet heating pad designed for phones and tablets
  • Heat the front side of the iPad
  • Select the tablet heating mode and allow the cycle to complete

Alternative: You can also use a heat gun or hairdryer, applying even heat around the edges.

Step 2: Opening the Digitizer

  • Place a suction cup near the edge of the screen and gently lift
  • Insert a plastic card or triangle picker into the gap
  • Carefully cut through the adhesive around all sides

⚠️ Be gentle—there are flex cables connected to the logic board.

Step 3: Lifting the Touch Screen

  • Open the digitizer like a book, from left to right
  • Rest it open carefully without straining the cables

Step 4: Removing the LCD Screen

  • Peel off the tape covering the LCD screws
  • Remove four screws securing the LCD
  • Lift the LCD to a 90-degree angle
  • Undo three screws holding the LCD connector shield
  • Disconnect the LCD flex cable

Note: The shield may be missing in some devices, but your iPad should normally have it.

Step 5: Disconnecting the Digitizer & Home Button

  • Disconnect both digitizer connectors
  • Peel back adhesive tape
  • Lift the tab and disconnect the Home Button / Touch ID flex

Now you can completely remove the touch screen assembly.

Step 6: Accessing the Power & Volume Flex

  • At the top-right corner, remove the shield by undoing three screws
  • Carefully peel back adhesive and disconnect the flex connector

Step 7: Removing the Old Power & Volume Flex

  • Remove two screws from the volume button shield
  • Remove two screws from the power button bracket
  • Lift and remove the volume plate shield
  • Gently remove the damaged power & volume flex using tweezers

Step 8: Installing the New Power & Volume Flex

  • Position the new flex cable correctly
  • Secure the connector firmly onto the board
  • Reinstall:
    • Volume shield (2 screws)
    • Power button bracket (2 screws)
  • Reapply adhesive over the connector
  • Secure the top shield using three screws

Step 9: Reconnecting Internal Components

  • Reconnect the digitizer flex cables
  • Reconnect the Home Button / Touch ID flex
  • Reinstall the LCD connector and secure the shield
  • Tighten the four LCD screws

Step 10: Closing the iPad

  • Ensure enough adhesive is present
    • Use B7000 glue or pre-cut double-sided adhesive if needed
  • Place the digitizer back like closing a book
  • Seat the bottom edge first, then the top
  • Press along the sides evenly
  • Ensure the Home button clicks properly

Use screen bonding clips or rubber bands and leave the device clamped for some time.

Step 11: Final Check

Power on the device and test:

  • Power button
  • Volume up & down
  • Touch screen response
  • Home button / Touch ID

FAQs

1. Are iPad 7 and iPad 8 power & volume flex cables the same?
Yes, both models use compatible power & volume flex cables.

2. Do I need to remove the battery before this repair?
No, but disconnecting the LCD and digitizer first is mandatory for safety.

3. Will Touch ID stop working after replacement?
No, as long as the original Home Button is reused and connected properly.

4. Is soldering required for this repair?
No soldering is needed. This is a connector-based replacement.

5. Can I reuse the original adhesive?
It’s not recommended. Fresh adhesive ensures better screen bonding.

Troubleshooting – After The Repair

1. Power button not responding after repair
Recheck the flex connector and ensure adhesive isn’t blocking the contacts.

2. Volume buttons work intermittently
Make sure the flex is seated correctly under the volume brackets.

3. Screen lifting after reassembly
Insufficient adhesive—reapply B7000 or use pre-cut tape.

4. iPad not powering on
Check LCD connector seating and ensure no cables were damaged during opening.

5. Home button not clicking properly
