iPad Pro 2020 11-inch Battery Replacement Guide

The iPad Pro 2020 11-inch is one of Apple’s most powerful tablets, but even high-end devices eventually face battery degradation. Over time, the battery capacity decreases due to charging cycles, heat, and regular usage. When the battery becomes weak, you may experience:

  • Fast battery drain
  • Sudden shutdowns
  • Battery not charging
  • Device heating during use
  • Battery health below 80%
  • Slow performance or reduced battery life

If your iPad is more than 2–3 years old, or you’ve been using it heavily, a battery replacement is a smart solution to restore its performance and longevity. However, the iPad Pro 2020 is sealed with strong adhesive, and the screen is fragile. This repair requires careful handling, proper heating, and patience.

⚠️ Important: Before starting, back up your data. Always work on a clean, flat surface and keep screws organized.

Protect Your iPad Pro

Step-by-Step Repair Guide (Detailed)

Step 1: Power Off and Remove SIM Tray

Turn off the iPad completely. Remove the SIM tray if your model has one. This prevents accidental damage during the repair.

Step 2: Heat the Front Screen

The iPad screen is attached with strong adhesive. Heating softens the adhesive and makes it easier to open the screen.

How to heat properly:

  • Use a tablet heating pad (recommended)
  • Set to tablet heating mode
  • Heat for 3–5 minutes
  • If using a heat gun, keep it at a safe distance to avoid screen damage

Step 3: Create a Gap Using a Suction Cup

Place a suction cup near the edge of the screen and pull gently to create a small gap. This allows you to insert plastic pry tools.

Step 4: Cut the Adhesive Around the Screen

Insert a plastic pry tool or guitar pick into the gap. Slide it around the edge slowly to cut through the adhesive.
Tip: Avoid using metal tools to prevent screen cracking.

Step 5: Lift the Screen and Remove Shield

Once the adhesive is cut, lift the screen slightly.
Inside, you will see the shield covering the connectors. Remove the 2 screws holding the shield, then gently lift the shield off.

Step 6: Disconnect Screen Flex Cables

There are multiple flex cables connected to the logic board. Carefully disconnect them one by one using a plastic spudger.

Important:

  • Do not pull the cables forcefully
  • Use a spudger to lift connectors gently

Step 7: Remove the Screen

Open the screen like a book (around 90 degrees).
Remove the remaining screws and disconnect 4 connectors to completely remove the screen.

Step 8: Remove the Charger Port Cable

The charger port flex cable is attached with adhesive.

  • Remove 2 screws
  • Apply heat to soften the glue
  • Carefully peel out the cable using a spudger

Disconnect 2 connectors under the shield.

Step 13: Remove Logic Board

Disconnect all antenna and speaker connectors around the board.
Peel the antennas carefully to free the logic board.

Apply heat under the logic board to soften adhesive.
Use a plastic pry tool to lift the board slowly. If adhesive is still strong, use the pry tool to cut the adhesive especially around the L-shaped part.

Once loose, remove the logic board carefully.

Step 14: Remove Battery Adhesive

The battery is secured with strong adhesive.
Start by pulling the adhesive tabs gently to remove the sticky strips.

Tip: If the adhesive tabs break, use heat and a pry tool to lift the battery.

Apply heat to the battery area to soften the adhesive.
Do this for 2–3 minutes.

Ensure it sits flat and aligned properly.
