How to Find Tools and Parts
Start by turning off the iPhone 12 Mini completely.
Remove the SIM tray and then use a Pentalobe screwdriver to undo the two bottom screws next to the charging port.
To release the screen, you must soften the adhesive.
We are using a heating pad, but a heat gun or hairdryer will also work. Apply moderate, even heat around the edges.
Use a double-sided suction cup tool to pull the screen upward.
If you don’t have one, a regular suction cup works fine. You can slide in a plastic pry card or triangle picker to separate the screen and loosen the rubber gasket around the frame.
Take your time here. Good separation avoids damage to the display flexes.
Lift the screen from the left side—just like opening a book.
Remove the screw on the bottom shield, then disconnect and remove the shield to access the battery plug. Always disconnect the battery first for safety.
At the top, remove five screws holding the upper shield.
Take out the shield and then disconnect the screen connector and the earpiece flex.
Now the display is free from the body.
Locate the bracket covering the Taptic Engine connector.
Undo the two screws securing this bracket and remove it.
Undo two more screws holding the Taptic Engine in place.
Disconnect the Taptic Engine flex plug from the board.
Gently lift and remove the not-working Taptic Engine from the phone’s frame.
Place the new replacement Taptic Engine into the body. Make sure it aligns properly with its screw holes and sits flat on the frame.
Reconnect the plug and secure the two screws.
Place back the internal bracket and secure it with the two screws you removed earlier.
Bring the display back to the device.
First, reconnect the earpiece assembly flex.
Then reconnect the LCD connector and the battery plug.
Reinstall both shields using their original screws.
To close the device properly:
Do not apply too much pressure—press along the metal frame area.
Insert the SIM tray back in, and add the two bottom screws to secure the phone.
Your iPhone 12 Mini should now be fully reassembled with a fresh Taptic Engine.

A failing Taptic Engine causes no vibration, weak haptic feedback, missing taps when typing, or the phone feeling unresponsive during notifications.
Yes, if you follow the steps carefully and use the correct tools. Always disconnect the battery before unplugging any internal components.
iPhone 12 Mini has factory water resistance, but replacing the adhesive fully restores only partial sealing. It’s still recommended to add pre-cut adhesive.
No, the Taptic Engine is a vibration component. Replacing it does not affect storage, apps, or data.
