This involves taking apart every major component — including the screen, battery, cameras, logic board, speaker module, and charging port flex — so you can understand the exact layout and structure before beginning repairs.

Whether you’re planning to fix display issues, battery problems, charging faults, or camera errors, this full teardown is the best starting point.

Compatibility and Model Numbers

This repair guide based on iPhone 12 mini mobile phone

Compatible Mode Numbers l A2399, A2176, A2402, A2400

Tools You Need

  • Heating pad / heat gun / hairdryer
  • Suction cup
  • Plastic card pry tools / opening picks
  • Phillips PH000 screwdriver
  • Pentalobe P2 Screwdriver (for bottom screws)
  • Tri-Point Y000 Screwdriver
  • Adhesive (B7000 or double-sided frame adhesive)
  • Bonding clips or rubber bands (optional but recommended)

How to Find Tools and Parts

Step 1 — Power Off & Opening Procedure

Start by turning off the device completely. Remove the SIM tray and then undo the two Pentalobe screws at the bottom.

Next, to open the device, apply moderate heat to soften the display adhesive. A heat gun, hairdryer, or heating pad will work.

Once heated, use a suction cup to lift the screen slightly. Insert a plastic picker and gently slide it around the frame to release the water-resistant gasket.

Carefully lift the display from the left side—like opening a book—so you don’t damage the flex cables on the right.

Step 2 — Disconnecting Screen & Battery

Remove the shield covering the battery connector and disconnect the battery first. This prevents accidental shorting during teardown.

Move to the top section and remove the five screws securing the second shield. Then disconnect the LCD, touch connector, and earpiece assembly plug. Now you can separate the screen.

On the removed screen, take off the earpiece + sensor module by undoing the four screws. Gently peel the ribbon flex as it is sensitive to pressure.

Step 3 — Removing the Battery

The iPhone 12 Mini uses pull-tab adhesives. Peel the black sticky tabs from the top and bottom. Slowly stretch the adhesive tabs outward until they release.

If the tabs break, gently heat the back and pry under the battery—but avoid bending or puncturing it.

Lift the battery using a plastic tool.

Step 4 — Removing Cameras

To remove the rear camera, take out the small plate and undo the two connector plugs. Lift the camera straight up.

Next, disconnect the three connectors holding the front camera and Face ID module. Carefully remove the unit.

Step 5 — Removing Taptic Engine & Speaker

Go to the bottom-left area and remove the Taptic Engine:

  1. Remove three screws and a shield.
  2. Undo one more screw and disconnect the plug.
  3. Lift the Taptic Engine.

Next, remove the bottom loudspeaker by undoing the four screws.

Step 6 — Logic Board Removal

Undo the four screws securing the logic board. Disconnect six flex cables, including display, cameras, and button cables.

Don’t forget to remove the small plate near the top-right.

Lift the logic board slowly with tweezers — some flexes or tapes may still be attached, so be gentle.

Step 7 — Removing Other Flex Cables

Continue with:

  • WiFi flex cable (four screws)
  • Flash/LED flex in the top center (two screws, gently peel it)
  • Bluetooth antenna near the rear camera area (two screws)

Step 8 — Charging Port Flex Removal

Finally, remove the charging port flex:

  • Undo eleven screws
  • Carefully peel the flex cable along the bottom
  • Gently lift the microphones and surrounding parts (the adhesive here is usually quite strong)

Once lifted, the teardown is fully complete.

Conclusion

And that completes our full teardown of the iPhone 12 Mini.

This detailed breakdown gives you complete access to internal components so you can perform individual repairs such as battery replacement, charging port replacement, camera swap, Taptic Engine repair, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the iPhone 12 Mini difficult to teardown?

It is moderately difficult. The device uses strong adhesive, delicate flex cables, and tightly packed components, so following a step-by-step guide is essential.

2. Will opening the phone remove water resistance?

Yes. Once the screen adhesive is removed, the water-resistant seal is lost. Even with new adhesive, the device will not regain original water resistance.

3. Can I reuse the old battery adhesive?

No. Battery adhesive must always be replaced for safety and proper fit.

4. Does removing the logic board affect Face ID?

Not if done correctly. However, any damage to the Face ID flex cable will permanently disable it.

5. Should I disconnect the battery before removing other parts?

Yes, disconnecting the battery is mandatory to avoid short circuits.
