Hi everyone, welcome back to DIYGeardo 👋

In this guide, we will show you how to replace the LCD and touch screen on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 tablet. If your Surface Pro 5 display is cracked, touch is not responding, showing lines, or completely black, replacing the LCD and touch screen assembly is the correct solution.

This repair requires careful heating and patience, as the screen is strongly glued to the frame and connected with delicate flex cables. Follow the steps carefully to avoid damage.

Before starting, make sure you have the right tools, which you can find in the description.

Tools Required

Tools You Need

  • Heating pad / heat gun / hairdryer
  • Suction cup
  • Plastic card pry tools / opening picks
  • Phillips #000 / #00 screwdriver
  • Torx T3, T4, T5 Screwdriver
  • Tri-Point Y0 / Y000 Screwdriver – Occasionally for specialized internal screws.
  • Adhesive (B7000 or double-sided frame adhesive)
  • Bonding clips or rubber bands (optional but recommended)

How to Find Tools and Parts

Step-by-Step LCD & Touch Screen Assembly Replacement

Step 1: Heat the Front Screen

Proper heating is the most important part of a Surface Pro repair.

  • Place the tablet front side down on a heating pad
  • Select the Tablet Heating option
  • Allow the heating cycle to complete
  • Alternatively, apply even heat using a heat gun or hairdryer

Step 2: Lift and Separate the Screen

  • Attach a suction cup to the screen edge
  • Gently lift to create a small gap
  • Insert plastic card pry tools or triangle pickers
  • Slowly cut the adhesive around the entire frame
  • Be patient and avoid applying excessive force

⚠️ Be careful: Flex cables are attached to the logic board.

Step 3: Disconnect LCD and Touch Screen Connectors

  • Gradually flip the screen open
  • Use a pry tool to remove the protective connector shield
  • Disconnect the LCD video connector
  • Disconnect the touch screen connectors

Quick note:
In some devices, protective shields may be missing due to previous repairs. Normally, these shields should be present.

Step 4: Prepare the Old Screen for Part Transfer

Before installing the new screen, some parts must be transferred:

  • Remove the protective shields from the old screen
  • Take out:
    • LCD video connector cable
    • Two touch screen cables
    • Touch screen PCB board

Step 5: Install Components on the New Screen

  • Place the touch screen PCB board onto the new screen
  • Connect both touch screen flex cables
  • Secure the connectors using the shield

Step 6: Install LCD Video Cable

  • Add the LCD video cable to the new screen
  • Secure it with the original shield

Step 7: Connect Screen to the Logic Board

  • Connect the LCD video cable to the board
  • Connect the touch screen connectors
  • Reinstall all protective shields securely

Step 8: Apply Adhesive

  • Inspect the frame for old adhesive
  • Clean if necessary
  • Apply B7000 glue or tablet-specific adhesive evenly

For best protection against dust and moisture, using original adhesive and a screen pressing machine is recommended.

Step 9: Reinstall the Screen

  • Insert the screen starting from the top edge
  • Align the bottom section
  • Press evenly along the sides and bottom
  • Make sure the screen sits flush with the frame

Step 10: Clamp the Screen

  • Use screen bonding clips to secure the display
  • Apply even pressure around the edges
  • Leave it clamped for some time to allow adhesive curing

Final Testing

Before final use, check:

  • Touch response across the entire screen
  • Display brightness and color
  • No loose edges or gaps
  • No dust trapped under the screen
