How to Find Tools and Parts

How to Replace the Google Pixel 4a 5G Battery

Step 1: Remove the Display

The first step is to remove the LCD screen from the front of the phone.

The display is secured to the phone with adhesive, so the adhesive needs to be softened before attempting to separate the screen.

Place the phone with the front screen facing down on a suitable heating pad. Select the appropriate mobile phone heating setting and allow the adhesive around the display edges to soften.

Alternatively, you can use a heat gun or hairdryer. Apply heat gently and evenly around the edges of the screen.

Once the adhesive has softened, use a suction cup to gently lift the screen slightly.

Insert a plastic card pry tool or similar non-metallic opening tool into the gap and carefully work it around the edges of the display to cut through the adhesive.

You can also use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol around the screen edges to help loosen the adhesive.

Be extremely careful during this process. Avoid inserting the pry tool too deeply or applying excessive force, as this could damage the display or internal components.

Step 2: Disconnect the LCD Screen

Gradually lift the display to approximately a 90-degree angle from the top of the phone.

Using tweezers, carefully remove the LCD connector bracket.

Next, disconnect the LCD connector from the board.

Once the LCD connector has been disconnected, the screen can be completely separated from the phone body.

Place the display somewhere safe where it will not be scratched or damaged.

Step 3: Remove the SIM Tray

Eject and remove the SIM tray from the phone.

Removing the SIM tray allows the internal housing to be separated more easily during the next steps.

Step 4: Remove the Mid-Frame Screws

Remove the nine screws securing the mid-frame plate.

Keep the screws organized during disassembly so they can be returned to their correct positions during reassembly.

Step 5: Separate the Housing

Using a plastic card pry tool or triangle opening pick, carefully move around the frame to release the clips securing the housing.

Work slowly around the edges rather than trying to force the housing apart in one place.

There are cables connected to the logic board, so do not suddenly pull the housing away from the phone.

Once the clips have been released, gently pull out the housing and lay the back cover from the top onto the work surface.

Be extremely gentle during this process. Do not apply excessive force to the phone, connectors, or cables.

Step 6: Remove the Logic Board Bracket

Remove the seven screws securing the logic board bracket.

Once the screws have been removed, carefully take out the bracket.

Step 7: Disconnect the Battery

Locate the battery connector on the board and carefully disconnect the battery plug.

Make sure the connector is fully disconnected before continuing to work around the battery and other internal components.

Step 8: Disconnect the Fingerprint and Flash Sensor Connectors

Disconnect the fingerprint button connector and flash sensor connector from the board.

These connectors need to be disconnected so the back cover can be completely separated from the phone body.

Step 9: Remove the First Battery Adhesive Strip

Flip the phone body over and locate the adhesive tape covering the battery pull tab.

Carefully remove the tape covering the pull tab.

Using your fingers or tweezers, gently grab the pull tab and slowly pull it away from underneath the battery.

Continue pulling steadily until the adhesive strip slips out from underneath the battery.

This process may take some time. Keep the phone securely supported and avoid pulling aggressively.

Step 10: Remove the Second Battery Adhesive Strip

Repeat the same process for the other battery adhesive strip.

Gently pull the adhesive strip out from underneath the battery.

Take your time and avoid using excessive force.

Step 11: Release the Remaining Battery Adhesive

Flip the phone body over and release the two remaining adhesive tapes securing the battery.

Make sure the battery has been properly released from its adhesive before attempting to remove it.

Step 12: Remove the Old Battery

Gently pry the non-working battery out of the phone body using a suitable plastic pry tool.

Work carefully and avoid bending, puncturing, or damaging the battery.

Do not force the battery out. If it remains firmly attached, check that all of the adhesive has been released before continuing.

Never puncture or bend a lithium-ion battery.

Step 13: Install the New Battery

Prepare the replacement Google Pixel 4a 5G battery with suitable battery adhesive.

Position the new battery correctly inside the phone body.

Make sure the battery is properly aligned and sitting flat before securing it.

Step 14: Secure the New Battery

Install the two adhesive tapes onto the battery.

Make sure the battery is securely held in position before continuing with the reassembly.

Step 15: Reconnect the Fingerprint and Sensor Connectors

Hold the back housing at approximately a 90-degree angle.

Reconnect the fingerprint button and flash sensor connectors to the board.

Make sure each connector is correctly aligned and securely seated.

Step 16: Reconnect the Battery

Reconnect the battery plug to the board.

Make sure the connector is properly aligned and fully seated.

Step 17: Reinstall the Logic Board Bracket

Place the logic board bracket back into its original position.

Secure the bracket using the seven screws removed earlier.

Avoid overtightening the screws.

Step 18: Reassemble the Housing

Gently slide the phone body back into the housing, starting from the top and then moving toward the bottom.

Once the housing is correctly positioned, gently press around the edges to fasten the clips.

Make sure the housing is properly seated before continuing.

Step 19: Reinstall the SIM Tray

Insert the SIM tray back into the phone.

Step 20: Reinstall the Mid-Frame Screws

Place the mid-frame plate back into position.

Secure it using the nine screws removed earlier.

Step 21: Reconnect the LCD Screen

Reconnect the LCD screen plug to the board.

Place the LCD connector bracket back into position and secure it.

Before permanently installing the display, it is recommended to test the phone.

Step 22: Test the Phone

Turn on the Google Pixel 4a 5G and verify that the replacement battery and other components are functioning correctly.

Check that the phone starts normally and that the display and other components disconnected during the repair are working correctly.

If everything is working properly, turn the phone off before permanently securing the display.

Step 23: Prepare the Display Adhesive

Before reinstalling the LCD screen, inspect the existing adhesive.

If there is not enough adhesive to securely hold the display, apply suitable B7000 glue or install new double-sided LCD adhesive.

Avoid applying excessive adhesive.

Step 24: Reinstall the LCD Screen

Gently position the display onto the phone, starting from the bottom and then moving toward the top.

Make sure the screen is correctly aligned with the frame.

Once it is correctly positioned, gently apply pressure around the screen edges to secure it.

Step 25: Secure the Display While the Adhesive Sets

Use bonding clips to hold the LCD screen securely against the phone body while the adhesive sets.

Leave the clips in place for an appropriate amount of time based on the adhesive being used.

If bonding clips are not available, suitable rubber bands can be used to provide gentle, even pressure while the adhesive cures.

Once the adhesive has properly set, remove the clips or rubber bands.
