How to Find Tools and Parts

Step 1: Power Off and Prepare

  • Turn off the Surface Pro 4 completely.
  • Remove the sim card tray (if applicable).
  • Lay the tablet on a flat, static-free surface for safety.

Step 2: Heat the Screen

  • Proper heating is critical to separate the screen from the body.
  • Use a tablet heating pad designed for mobile and tablet repairs. Select the tablet heating mode and heat the front side until the adhesive softens.
  • Alternatively, you can use a heat gun or similar tool, but be careful not to overheat.

Step 3: Lift the Screen

  • Use a suction cup on the edges to lift the screen slightly.
  • Insert plastic card pry tools or triangle pickers along the edges to cut the adhesive.
  • Be gentle; the screen is attached to the logic board via flex cables.

Step 4: Disconnect Video and Touch Connectors

  • Lift the screen halfway and locate the protector shields covering the connectors.
  • Use a pry tool to remove the shields carefully.
  • Disconnect the LCD video cable and touch screen connectors.
  • Once disconnected, remove the screen entirely.

Step 5: Remove the Heat Sink

  • Locate the copper heat sink on the logic board.
  • Undo two screws on the right-hand side, one screw on the top and middle, and four screws on the left side.
  • Carefully lift and remove the heat sink.

Step 6: Loosen the Logic Board

  • Undo eight screws securing the logic board.
  • Disconnect the connector on the right-hand side.
  • Carefully lift the board slightly using a pry tool to access the battery.

Step 7: Heat the Battery

  • Apply additional heat to the battery area using the heating pad.
  • This will help soften the adhesive holding the battery in place.

Step 8: Remove the Old Battery

  • Use a pry tool to gently lift the battery while cutting the adhesive underneath.
  • Ensure the cable glue has released before removing the battery completely.

Step 9: Install the New Battery

  • Remove the adhesive protector from the new battery.
  • Place the battery on the logic board and insert the connector into the slot.
  • Ensure the battery is seated securely and the board is properly supported.

Step 10: Reassemble the Logic Board and Heat Sink

  • Plug in the connector on the right-hand side and secure the board with eight screws.
  • Snap the protector shield back in place.
  • Reattach the heat sink with all eight screws.

Step 11: Reconnect LCD and Touch Screen

  • Connect the LCD video cable and secure its shield.
  • Connect the digitizer (touch) cable and secure the shield.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and properly seated.

Step 12: Seal the Screen

  • Make sure the frame has enough adhesive.
  • If not, apply B7000 glue or equivalent.
  • Press in the top section first, then the bottom, and finally the sides.
  • Optional: Use screen bonding clips to hold the screen tightly.

Step 13: Final Checks

  • Power on the Surface Pro 4 to verify battery function and check the screen.
  • Ensure the device charges correctly and shows full battery capacity.
